Heading hierarchy
Whether headings form a real outline rather than styled text.
Worth 10 of 100 in the audit score.
What we check
We read heading levels in document order, looking for one h1 and levels that descend without skipping.
Why it matters
A sound outline makes a long page quotable in sections. A page made of styling choices is harder for a model to understand and cite.
How to fix it
- Use one h1 that describes the page.
- Descend one level at a time instead of using headings for visual sizing.
- Write headings as the questions each section answers.
